Freshly recalled James Maloney delivered a hail-mary kick for the Blues which Trbojevic sensationally brought down to score the first points of the match.

That gave NSW the opening try in the seventh minute of the match at Optus Stadium, which was then successfully converted by Nathan Cleary.

However the Maroons didn’t take long to strike back. Will Chambers was awarded a penalty try in the 16th minute, and this converted by Kalyn Ponga, leveling the scores at 6-6 early on.

NSW would deliver the next blow and it was James Maloney again setting up a teammate in Tyson Frizell to get over the line and retake the lead for the Blues.

A successful conversion from Nathan Cleary put the Blues up 12-6, just in time for torrents of rain to start up, and giving NSW a handy lead under that weather.

It was then Trbojevic who scored NSW’s third try of the game and the first half, and his second of the evening, with a conversion by James Maloney putting the Blues ahead by 12.

That would prove to be the scoreline at half time.
