Rejoice, for the bye rounds are over! Let’s get into some rankings.

1.Geelong
Last week: 1

On one hand, Geelong perennially never win after the bye. On the other hand, they lost to a notoriously inconsistent team. Neither of those things is a good thing, but fortunately for them they do have a plethora of time to keep on winning.

2.Collingwood
Last week: 2

A controversial week leading into a mediocre win. Collingwood are undoubtedly still very much on the inside straight for a top four position, but they looked a little (read: very) flat on Sunday. No matter – like every team, there is plenty of time to rectify any issues.

3.West Coast
Last week: 3

Oh boy. This could have been a substaially bigger win. Twenty-three behinds is crazy, but ignorant of the inaccuracy, it was a strong win nonetheless.

4.GWS Giants
Last week: 4

5.Brisbane Lions
Last week: 5

Hot damn, that third quarter was superb. Brisbane in the box seat for the top eight: the onus is on them to not lose focus (or games they shouldn’t). Melbourne at the Gabba up next.

6.Fremantle
Last week: 6

Hey, they started as underdogs if you listen to the bookies. Injury crisis be damned, Freo weren’t playing too well in the slightest. I’m proud they stuck in there, but very frustrated in the game (in more ways than one).

1.Adelaide
Last week: 7

8.Port Adelaide

Yes, they’ve been worryingly inconsistent, and yes the Cats just do not win after a bye. But it was a sensational win. Maybe dramatic selection changes do work, after all.

9.Essendon
Last week: 8

They ain’t making finals. I’m genuinely surprised the coaching future of John Worsfold isn’t garnering much traction. He’s at the helm of a team that is severely underperforming.

10.Richmond
Last week: 9

Had the bye.

11.North Melbourne

12.Sydney Swans
Last week: 14

Good win! Prevailed despite injuries, but naturally, in this fixture, they didn’t have it all their own way. Nonetheless, they’ll be super pleased with the victory. Up next is avoiding a repeat of last year’s mammoth upset loss to the Suns. Heh.

13.Hawthorn
Last week: 12

I called them the most mediocre side of the year last week. And I’m sticking with that. They’re floundering at the moment – which isn’t something one usually describes the Hawks as.

14.St Kilda
Last week: 13

The good news was Hannebery and Carlisle making through unscathed. The bad news was the entire team capitulating in that third term. I noticed their footy manager suggesting Richardson is safe if significant improvement eventuates. Hmmm.

15.Western Bulldogs
Last week: 15

The Bulldogs need to kick better. They kick at goal better, they win that game. Okay, it mightn’t be that simple, but they had a good opportunity to defeat the Pies and they blew it.

16.Melbourne
Last week: 18

Good win. Even before Freo’s mid-game injury crisis, the Demons were looking the better side. And unlike in the past, where the Demons might have struggled to complete the clash, they closed it out the substantially stronger side.

17.Carlton
Last week: 16

Had the bye.

18.Gold Coast
