After fears we’d be in for a stale finish to the Cricket World Cup, things have heated up in a big way over the last week with both the semi-finals race and tournament champions race being blown wide open.
Both undefeated teams suffered their first losses in recent days, with New Zealand falling to Australia by 86 runs and India succumbing to England by 31.
England are still far from guaranteed a spot in the semis – if they lose to the Black Caps and Pakistan defeat Bangladesh, they’re out – but they’ll be a scary proposition for anyone in the knockout stage.
So, with two weeks to go, who are the World Cup favourites?
We got Roar cricket expert Glenn Mitchell on the Game of Codes podcast to look at the top four contenders and make a call on who’ll be lifting the cup in a fortnight’s time.
Listen to the discussion:
The Aussies are out to claim their second title in a row and sixth overall. A win would give them five of the past six World Cups. India are chasing their third title and first since 2011, while England are hoping to become the third host nation in a row to claim the cup by winning their first. New Zealand are also chasing their first title, while hoping to avenge their 2015 final defeat.
