Following their utter domination of Perth’s State of Origin Game 2, New South Wales enter tomorrow’s series decider as warm favourites.

They’ll be looking to successfully retain the shield for the first time since they won three in a row between 2003 and 2005 – but it’s not just a case of rocking up to ANZ Stadium and collecting the win.

Why? The return of Mitchell Pearce – one of the most maligned halfbacks in representative history.

With first-choice halfback Nathan Cleary injured, do the Blues need their recalled veteran to deliver a matchwinning effort, or is it a case of playing around him?

Roar NRL expert and editor Scott Pryde joined us on the Game of Codes podcast to look over the blueprint for NSW as they look to seal the series victory.

Listen to the discussion:

It was an incredible defensive effort that smothered Queensland in WA, with just 22 missed tackles and one line break conceded for the whole game. An immense effort from the Blues forward pack saw their opponents restricted to just an average set distance of 33.6 metres, with their exploitation of Kevin Walters’ decision not to run a recognised hooker proving masterful.
