Round 17 provides a good opportunity for Adelaide to shear up their finals prospects by convincingly beating bottom of the ladder Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.

The Crows have introduced some new blood in Tyson Stengle for his first game and bought back Riley Knight, dropping veteran Richard Douglas and Jordan Gallucci.

Gold Coast have bought back Sean Lemmens, who will match Harley Bennell’s 81 games and the club’s fourth most experienced player Michael Rischitelli.

Geelong will get back on track and consolidate their position on top of the tree with an easy win over the gallant but undermanned Saints. Harry Taylor will move up to join Bruce Nankervis and Steve Johnson in 14th place on the Cat’s all-time top 100 game players, while Tom Hawkins will join former skipper Bill Goggin in 18th place.

For the Saints, Jack Newnes will play his 150th game and join 1930’s triple best and fairest winner Jack Davis on that number. Sebastian Ross will join Steven Sziller in 95th place.

Greater Western Sydney are losing their foothold on the ladder and – if Richmond have their way – will slip further this weekend. The four “ins” will dramatically strengthen the Tigers and set them on the way for a good finals series.

Bachar Houli will equal Andrew Kellaway’s games tally for Richmond, while Dylan Grimes will match New Zealander Tom O’Halloran who was adjudged Richmond’s best player in his sensational debut in 1925.

O’Halloran won the best and fairest in his first year and played in five losing grand finals before claiming two premierships.

Ex-Tiger Brett Deledio will match Jacob Townsend’s games at the Giants and Dawson Simpson will match Chad Cornes.

The Western Bulldogs can keep the dream alive by beating Melbourne and may introduce Rylee, the son of former champion Scott, West to the big time as well as their most experienced player, Dale Morris.

Marcus Bontempelli will draw level with All-Australian table tennis champion Jim Thoms whose brother George played Test cricket for Australia and Arthur Edwards, a member of the 1954 premiership team and part of the dynasty that includes his son Allan Edwards and his grandchildren Shane O’Bree and Jake Edwards.

A key match of Round 17 is the final game between Port Adelaide and Brisbane at Adelaide Oval. Despite climbing into the top four through good, consistent football the Lions still have their doubters and a win over the Power would silence these critics.

Unfortunately, the Power at home could be a powerful foe. The Power welcome back Travis Boak and debutante Cam Sutcliffe while the Lions will replace AFL elite player Luke Hodge and recent goal centurion Eric Hipwood with Oscar McInerney and Josh Walker.

Charlie Cameron will play his 100th AFL game, which includes 73 at Adelaide.

At Port Adelaide, Brad Ebert will draw level with Adam Kingsley and Ollie Wines will equal Stephen Paxman.

For Brisbane, dynamic current captain Dayne Zorko will draw level with the games played for the club by current Geelong coach, Chris Scott on 160 games.
