We’re moving closer and closer to finals time in the NRL, so it’s time to put the top eight under the spotlight and separate the contenders from the pretenders.

The Melbourne Storm are streaking ahead of the rest, opening up a six-point lead atop the ladder. Can anyone catch them?

Has South Sydney’s rough patch of representative period form doomed them? Or will they recover smartly?

Are the Roosters getting their personnel back at just the right time? Can the Raiders translate a strong home-and-away season into a strong finals campaign?

Who, of the chasing pack, can give the contenders a shake and who’s just making up the numbers?

We were joined by Roar NRL expert Ryan O’Connell to look over the contenders and make a call on who’s actually capable of lifting the Provan-Summons trophy come October.
