Australia may have succumbed to England – who went on to win the Cricket World Cup – in the semi-finals, but we all know the whole tournament was just a warmup for The Ashes, right?

With the most storied series in Cricket history set to write a new chapter in just a few short weeks’ time, the World Cup actually served as an important audition period for several players ahead of the five-Test series.

So, who put their hands up for an Ashes gig? Who threw their spot away?
