After yet another rough loss for St George Illawarra on the weekend, coach Paul McGregor is under immense public pressure to retain his job.

The Dragons currently languish in 14th on the NRL ladder and, while they’re only four points behind Newcastle in eighth place, their woeful recent form suggests they’re no chance of playing finals.

Way back on Episode 9 of the podcast, we scrutinised the club’s decision to give ‘Mary’ a two-year contract extension given his history of massive fadeouts over the second half of a season.

This year, it’s happening again – although, this time, the Dragons didn’t enjoy a strong first half to offset it!

We got Roar NRL expert AJ Mithen on the Game of Codes podcast to examine McGregor’s job security and whether he’s the right man to take them into next season.

Listen to the discussion:

McGregor raised many an eyebrow just recently when he declared in a press conference he believed his side was still capable of winning the premiership. “I think we can win it,” he said when asked if his side was still capable.

“We can win a few in a row to play some finals … and if we’re healthy, look out,” he said.
