It’s been shaping up as a season to forget for St Kilda in 2019, with a bright start quickly overshadowed by a lengthy run of poor form.

Their tumble down the ladder culminated in the sacking of sixth-year coach Alan Richardson, with former Carlton boss Brett Ratten taking the reigns.

But, after two wins in his two matches in charge, and the finals race being so tight, could Ratten actually lead the Saints all the way to an incredibly unlikely finals appearance?

Can they take advantage of their favourable run home? Or has their recent form spike been just a flash in the pan?

We were joined on the Game of Codes podcast by Roar AFL expert and editor Stirling Coates to analyse the upcoming month for St Kilda and make a call on whether they can actually swoop in and steal a spot in the eight.

Listen to the discussion:

If Ratten was to perform a miracle and get the Saints to September, it wouldn’t be without precedent in the world of sport this season.

The St Louis Blues of the National Hockey League fired their coach earlier in the ice hockey season, sitting in last place (out of 31 teams) two months into the season, before turning it all the way around and winning the Stanley Cup!
