Billed as one of the biggest moments for basketball in Australia since the 2000 Olympics, an understrength USA will take on the Australian Boomers in a two-match series at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.

Game 1 is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30pm (AEST) on Thursday, August 22.

While there is little doubt the USA come into the series understrength, with virtually none of the players who were expected to travel with their World Cup side just a few months ago actually arriving in Australia, these matches are still enormous for both nations.

The USA and Australia are both near enough to the top of the basketball world, and the two-match series will provide high-level competition as we approach the World Cup, where both nations will be harbouring visions of a medal.

A likely audience of up to 50,000 will be on hand for the game between the two nations, with Game 2 in the series set to be played on Sunday.

Australia come into the matches against the USA following a one-all series score against Canada in Perth.
