It will go down in history as one of the greatest Test matches in cricket history but, for Australian fans, the third Ashes Test loss will sting for some time.

After bowling England out for 67 in their first innings, the visitors somehow allowed a 70-odd run last-wicket partnership to steal defeat from the jaws of victory.

Was the third Test more a case of England’s brilliance winning them the match, or Australia squandering a golden opportunity?

We were joined by Roar cricket expert David Schout on the Game of Codes podcast to ponder what might have been at Headingley.

Listen to the discussion:

It was a second innings to forget the Aussies, with dropped catches, bungled runouts and wasted reviews all contributing to Ben Stokes and co. completing the most unlikely of run chases and levelling this year’s Ashes series at 1-1.

Tim Paine’s captaincy will surely come under scrutiny too, with the wicketkeeper getting all of his reviews wrong in the third Test and once again failing to meaningfully contribute with the bat.
