The first week of the 2019 AFL Finals series has seen the results decide which teams will play who, when and where over the next two weeks.
West Coast’s win over Essendon on Thursday night put the Eagles through to a semi-final, but they needed to wait till Friday to know which they would face.
Collingwood and Geelong played out a tense affair that night with the Magpies ultimately holding on to book a prelim final, while the Cats will take on the Eagles next Friday.
Saturday then saw two largely uncompetitive matches, with GWS winning through to a semi-final by smashing the Western Bulldogs, before Richmond routed Brisbane.
That means the Tigers are into a home prelim, and the Lions will host the Giants in a semi next week.
The results mean the Grand Final will now be contested by two clear pools of teams – one of Richmond, West Coast or Geelong will play one of Collingwood, Brisbane or GWS.
The Pies and Tigers will be favoured to win through after securing home prelims, in what would be billed as one of the biggest grand finals in history given the size of those clubs.
