Australia may have retained the Ashes urn, but it was far from a perfect series and the selectors must look to make changes ahead of the Test summer.

Steve Smith and Marnus Labushagne were reliable with the bat throughout the series, while Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood were superb with the ball.

While they didn’t set the world on fire, neither Tim Paine nor Nathan Lyon would be feeling under threat at the selection table either.

Outside of those six players, however, should anyone feel their spot is guaranteed?

We got Roar cricket expert David Schout on the Game of Codes podcast to make a call on who should – and who shouldn’t – be in the selection frame when Australia’s Test summer gets underway against Pakistan.

Consistent failures at the top of the order were a huge problem, with David Warner, Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft all doing themselves no favours.

Usman Khawaja and Travis Head ended up omitted by the end of the series, while the third seamer spot would also have to be very much up for grabs between Mitchell Starc, James Pattinson or the injured Jhye Richardson.
