Are Geelong and GWS any chance of causing upsets?

The AFL preliminary finals kick-off tomorrow night, with two seemingly straightforward preliminary finals.

Richmond enter tomorrow night’s clash with Geelong as red-hot favourites – especially due to Tom Hawkins’ suspension – while Collingwood also look to have the edge over Greater Western Sydney thanks to Toby Greene’s potential absence.

Last year’s Richmond-Collingwood clash proved once more that anything can happen in September, however, so will we see another preliminary final upset or two this season?

We got Roar AFL expert Marnie Cohen on the Game of Codes podcast to preview both preliminary finals, make the case for both underdog sides and, ultimately, pick a winner and margin.

Geelong have a 67-point win over the Tigers earlier this year to look back on, but Damien Hardwick was missing several members of his best 22 for the clash and are winners of ten straight. Do the Cats have the right gameplan to counter Richmond? Has Hawkins cost his side a genuine chance?

GWS, similarly, crushed the Pies by 47 points when they clashed in Round 18, but no Lachie Whitfield and (as at time of writing) Greene has made them rank outsiders too.
