After years of preparation and speculation, the 2019 Rugby World Cup finally gets underway tomorrow night.

Pre-tournament expectations for the Wallabies have fluctuated wildly since losing the 2015 final, with some particularly rough years seeing the Australian rugby fandom at its most displeased for some time.

The fluctuation continued this year too, with an incredible win over the All Blacks being cancelled out by an equally disappointing shellacking on their home deck.

In a tricky group – featuring Wales and Fiji – and a potentially tough trip to the final, what’s the pass mark for the World Cup?

Is getting out of the group stage enough? Or should our sights be set higher?

We were joined on the Game of Codes podcast by Roar rugby expert Brett McKay to preview Australia’s tournament and make a call on what stage of the tournament they need to hit to come home satisfied.

That wasn’t all we discussed in our World Cup preview segment, with our panellists also making calls on their World Cup winners, runners-up, player of the tournament and a surprise quarter-finalist.

Visit our Game of Codes hub to catch the full episode and be sure to subscribe and review on iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts or wherever else you’re listening.
