After Cody Walker was sin binned against Manly, Cameron Smith became the second player in as many nights to be sent from the field for a slap.
The incident happened with 10 minutes to go in the Storm’s semi final against Parramatta when Smith became involved in a tangle with Reed Mahoney behind play.
Smith took exception to what he saw as a late tackle and Mahoney holding on after he’d kicked the ball.
Initially commentator Andrew Voss thought Smith had thrown punches but on replay it was clear that it was just a couple of slaps.
“The referee’s right there, why would you do it Cameron?” Steve Roach said.
After a review from the bunker the referee had no real choice but to give Smith ten in the bin given what had happened in the previous final.
