It was the Coleman Medallist, Jeremy Cameron of the GWS Giants, who kicked the first goal of the 2019 AFL grand final.
That came after a nervous and tense opening quarter where five behinds were kicked before any player on-field could manage to get one through the two big sticks.

Richmond suffered through two rushed behind to open the game and then saw a third come through Jason Castagna just before the ten-minute mark of the first quarter.
Daniel Lloyd and Toby Greene kicked back-to-back behinds for the Giants – Lloyd’s was a snap that didn’t come off, Greene’s a set shot that he probably should have nailed.
Just a few minutes later Jeremy Cameron had a shot from the flank, the same area that Greene had taken his from earlier.
Cameron’s shot was a long one, and seemed off-target at first, but came in just enough to squeeze past the posts and become the first goal of the game.
That was at the 20-minute mark of the first quarter, bringing to an end a tense stand-off.
All of sudden, goals came more quickly – four minutes later Dustin Martin got Richmond on the board, marking strongly and then running around to snap it through.
We seemed destined to go into quarter time at a near deadlock, but Daniel Rioli wouldn’t have that, firing off a goal that snuck through the posts just as the siren sounded.
That gave Richmond a 15-8 advantage which they took into the first break.
