It was Australia’s most important match of the Rugby World Cup group stage and, unfortunately, they came up short.

The Wallabies may have recovered from a strong start, but they weren’t able to reel in Wales and fell to a 29-25 loss.

That makes Australia’s path to the final a lot more difficult, with a quarter-final against England now the most likely scenario coming into the knockout stage.

Where did it all go wrong for the Wallabies in this one? Did they lose the match at the selection table, or did another slow start doom them?

We brought Roar rugby expert Brett McKay on the Game of Codes podcast to examine the loss and look at where Michael Cheika’s side can pick it up going forward.

That wasn’t all we touched on with the Rugby World Cup, with the hot topic of refereeing going under the microscope as well.

The officiating, both on the field and in the match review process, has drawn the ire of rugby fans – but are the referees really to blame, or has World Rugby thrown them under the bus?
