Trevor Hohns raised many an eyebrow earlier this week when he refused to guarantee a spot for David Warner in Australia’s Test XI for upcoming summer fixtures against Pakistan and New Zealand.

Warner’s endured a horror run of form with the red ball since returning from his lengthy suspension, becoming the first batsmen in Test history to be dismissed for a single-digit score eight times in the one series during Australia’s Ashes triumph.

With the domestic cricket season set to get underway shortly, he’ll obviously need to put some runs on the board – but who else is in the same boat?

Which Test hopefuls need to rip this Sheffield Shield season apart to earn – or keep – their spot in summer Test XI?

We were joined on the Game of Codes podcast by Roar cricket expert David Schout to look at the spots up for grabs, make a call on which players can score them and detail just what they need to do to be successful.

Australia’s international season gets underway very shortly, with a T20 series against Sri Lanka commencing in just over a fortnight.
