Although there is still some time left in the end-of-season trade period and some late changes will still happen, let’s review the top 100 players who for one reason or another will no longer be a member of the elite at the club they have given good service to.

Adelaide
So far, only two top 100 players will no longer be at the club next year. Richard Douglas, after 246 games and 164 goals, was delisted and Andy Otten retired. Douglas finishes his career ranked ninth and 14th on the Crows’ all time top 100 game-players and goal-scorers lists respectively, while Otten was also a top 50 game-player, ranked equal 49th, and a top 60 goal-scorer, ranked equal 60th. Cam Ellis-Yolmen – the 200th player to play for the Crows – is off to Brisbane but was not a member of the elite at the Crows.

Brisbane
The only change to the Lions’ list at this time is the retirement of former Hawks champion Luke Hodge. Hodge, who has been an extremely valuable asset to the club over his two seasons with them, played 41 games and – at a club that has only been in the league in its current format for 23 years – this ranks him equal 94th in the top 100 game-players. He may not still be on the list at the end of 2020 but it will take until Round 20 for all the potential players to rake up enough games to deny him his place at the elite table.

Carlton
Despite the fact that nine players have already been deleted from the Blues’ list, none of them were members of either the games-played or goals-scored top 100 list. Mention, however, needs to be made of the retired Dale ‘Daisy’ Thomas, who joined the club after eight years at Collingwood. He failed to become an elite player during his six years at Carlton, but if his stats for those six years are added to his tally at Collingwood – i.e. he had remained a one-club player – he would have finished his career as the Magpies’ ninth greatest game-player, level with Dane Swan, and equal 44th greatest goal-scorer, level with Neil Mann. Even now, he sits equal 78th in games and equal 61st in goals on the Magpies’ lists.

Collingwood
As I mentioned in a previous article, all-round utility player and good guy Tyson Goldsack announced his retirement after serving the Magpies well over his whole career and appearing in two grand finals. His game tally of 165 games places him in 68th position on the Magpies’ all time greatest game-players list.

Essendon
In his second last game for the club, Mark Baguley drew level with Courtenay Dempsey in 100th position on the club’s top 100 game-players list. His last game saw him move up to equal 98th on the list with Ken Timms and Adam Ramanauskas and Dempsey deleted from the list. With only two potential elite players at the club to be added in 2020, he will be safe as a top 100 player until at least 2021.
