With the Australian domestic Test cricket season getting underway, it’s a crucial time of year for many players as they look to make their claim for a spot in the Test XI in time for the international summer.

With an interesting first week of action behind us, we got Roar cricket expert and editor Scott Pryde on the Game of Codes podcast to make a call on which players put one hand on the baggy green, and which players are in a more precarious position.

Listen to all the discussion in the player above.

The opening spots in the batting order are set to be the most hotly contested, after neither David Warner, Marcus Harris nor Cameron Bancroft came close to impressing fans and selectors with their efforts in the Ashes. Can someone else claim one of the opening positions, or will one of the trio aforementioned find their form again?

The bowling spots will also be up for grabs too, with some potential openings in the pace positions making this year’s Sheffield Shield a particularly interesting tournament to watch.
