New Brisbane coach Robbie Fowler is looking forward to having his team run out at Suncorp Stadium for the first time this A-League season as the Roar prepare to take on Melbourne Victory tonight.

“We’ve had an unbelievably tough start in terms of going to Sydney away from home in the FFA Cup,” Fowler said in an appearance on 97.3 FM.

And with a last-gasp draw in Perth followed by a bye in Round 2, Brisbane will finally get to show their wares at home against the Victory.

“Whenever you do play at home, it’s absolutely class, and that’s the way we like it.”

Fowler called for Roar fans to flock to Suncorp Stadium for the Victory encounter – and for the rest of the season – lauding the impact a large home crowd can have.

“Anytime there’s a good crowd at the stadium, whether it’s AFL, whether it’s rugby, whether it’s cricket, or whether it’s football, whenever there’s a good crowd and it’s partisan, it brings out the best in the players.

“The players want to perform that little bit more and that little bit better, because they know they’ve got lots more eyes on them.

“So our aim and our plan is to try and get as many bodies into the stadium, and if that means getting a lot more kids in, then we’re all for that.”

After a tough few seasons, the Liverpool legend was optimistic about the Roar’s chances in 2019.

“We came in at the start of pre-season and changed the environment. We’ve got a good mentality with the lads, they’re all buying into what we’re trying to do here, so it’s been a really positive start.”
