The South Sydney Rabbitohs were dealt a massive blow yesterday, with talismanic English superstar Sam Burgess forced into an early retirement due to chronic shoulder problems.
He wrote his name into Souths folklore with his Clive Churchill-medal winning effort in the 2014 grand final.
After a heavily-interrupted 2019 season, the veteran forward announced he was hanging up the boots with three years left on a multi-million dollar deal.
It’s the second premature retirement Souths have had to endure this season, after Greg Inglis finished up earlier in the year.

The oft-suspended forward leaves the NRL with a bit of a headache, however, with the league and Souths currently in negotiations as to how much of his payout should count towards the salary cap.
