Who wins the Rugby World Cup and why

After weeks of elite-level rugby, we’ve narrowed the 2019 World Cup pool down to just two sides.

England and South Africa do battle on Saturday night for the right to be crowned World Cup champions.

The English come into this side in the better form, following their clinical 19-7 victory over the heavily-favoured All Blacks. The Springboks had to fight much harder, only seeing off Wales by three points in a very defensive and dour contest.

There can only be one winner – so who will it be? In any case, let’s hope it’s not a repeat of 2007…

We were joined by Roar rugby expert Brett McKay on the Game of Codes podcast to make the case for both sides, before ultimately making a call on the winner, margin, first try-scorer and man of the match.

Listen to the debate in the player above.

We also took a couple of seconds to look ahead to Friday’s bronze medal playoff between New Zealand and Wales. The All Blacks are the heavy favourites, but can the banged-up Welsh cause a surprise?
