With the Melbourne Cup finally over, we all need to know who finished where to see how our best went in 2019.
With the track rated a Soft 5, it was almost perfect conditions for racing – despite earlier fears poor weather would wreak havoc. We still ended up with a slow race, but in much better conditions than last year.
It was a dramatic post-race protest that changed the fourth-place finisher in the end. Il Paradiso originally crossed the line in fourth, but was promoted to third after stewards found Master of Reality interfered on the final turn.
As such, Master of Reality – who originally finished second – has officially been relegated to fourth.
Master of Reality is a five-year-old Bay Gelding, trained by Joseph O’Brien and jockeyed by Frankie Dettori.
First place: Vow and Declare
Second place: Prince of Arran
Third place: Il Paradiso
For everyone playing along at home, the fourth-place-getters of the past three years were Finche in 2018, Big Duke in 2017 and Qewy in 2016.
