There were three games that stood out from the nine games that were played on matchday 18 of the 2019-20 Premier League season.

There were plenty of talking points that came about in the nine games that were played. Given that there were only nine, there were two teams that had the bye: they were league leaders Liverpool and relegation battlers West Ham, who sit four points above the relegation zone.

The Premier League is tight and tough, even though Liverpool sit ten points above the second placed Leicester City.

Find out what makes the Premier League such an enthralling league to watch by reading the three games from matchday 18 that I chose to dissect.

Manchester City 3, Leicester City 1

Manchester City win the battle of the Cities

Facts and figures
Leicester City took the lead approximately halfway through the first half, thanks to an exquisite finish from Jamie Vardy. By half time it was 2-1 in favour of Manchester City, remarkably. Manchester City won the game 3-1 deservedly. They finished with 12 shots on target to Leicester City’s two.

Points of difference
After Leicester City scored the first goal they went into their shell, with Manchester City controlling possession and pretty much every area of the game.

Who made their team better?
Kasper Schmeichel didn’t stop trying. Even though his team conceded three goals, Schmeichel made approximately nine saves.

Trials and tribulations
Leicester City didn’t perform after they scored the opening goal of the game.

Watford 2, Manchester United 0

Watford leave Manchester United red faced

Facts and figures
Manchester United controlled the balance of play as they finished with 64 per cent of possession and eight shots on target to Watford’s three on target.

Points of difference
Watford’s tactics worked as they sat back and absorbed the pressure, but they are lucky that they had a former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster and that they were clinical in the final third when given the opportunity as they scored two goals.

Who made their team better?
Ben Foster made some good saves to help his team claim all three points. Troy Deeney displayed composure from the penalty spot to score Watford’s second goal of the game.

Trials and tribulations
Manchester United somehow managed not to score, despite having 17 shots. How you can’t score from that is beyond me.

Tottenham Hotspur 0, Chelsea 2

Chelsea help player beat former coach

Facts and figures
In a game where there were just four shots on target for both teams combined, Chelsea were victorious two goals to nil. Chelsea had three of the four shots on target, controlling the balance of play with the majority of possession.

Points of difference
It was a fairly comfortable win for Chelsea as Tottenham Hotspur finished the game with just one shot on target.

Who made their team better?
Willian was a standout. The Chelsea player managed to score a brace.

Trials and tribulations
Son Heung-min was sent off in the 62nd minute of the game, which made the task even tougher than it was for Tottenham Hotspur as they were already down two goals to nil prior to going down to ten men.
