South African marquee Dale Steyn is set to overcome a side strain and feature in his Big Bash game for the Melbourne stars against Adelaide.

Dale Steyn’s wait for his Big Bash debut is almost over with the South African quick expected to play on Friday night.

Steyn was on Thursday named in the Melbourne Stars’ squad for their clash with the Adelaide Strikers, after missing their opening two games due to a side strain suffered before arriving in Australia.

The South African pace superstar had indicated he was extremely close to playing against Hobart last weekend, but the Stars took a cautious approach.

His inclusion means Pakistani quick Haris Rauf will be forced to return to club cricket despite taking five wickets against the Hurricanes, as each club can only have two international players in their team and the Stars also boast Nepalese spin star Sandeep Lamichhane.

Meanwhile Nathan Coulter-Nile is also a chance to play his first game of the season for the Stars after beating an ankle injury for the Adelaide Oval match.

The Strikers will have veteran paceman Peter Siddle back after he was released from Australia’s Test squad, but Michael Neser is unavailable as remains in Melbourne as Test 12th man.
