The crown jewel of the NRL pre-season gets underway for another year, with the South Sydney Rabbitohs and St George Illwarra Dragons contesting the Charity Shield for the 37th time.

In what has traditionally been viewed as the unofficial beginning to an NRL season, the 2020 edition of the Charity Shield will kick off at 7pm (AEDT) on Saturday, February 29 and will be played at Glen Willow Oval in Mudgee.

The Dragons hold a narrow 16-15 advantage in this fixture (which has also seen five draws), but the Rabbitohs have won the last seven games – dating back to 2013.

It’s not the only NRL trial on this weekend however, you can check out the full NRL pre-season fixtures here.

How to watch the Charity Shield on TV

You’ll have one TV option available if you want to watch the Charity Shield on TV.

For ad-break free coverage (during play), you’ll want to tune into Fox League (channel 502). They have a pre-game show beginning at 6:15pm (AEDT), before broadcasting the game live from 7pm until roughly 9:15pm. You need a valid Foxtel TV subscription to watch Fox League.

Despite the NRL’s official website listing Channel Nine as a broadcaster of this match, at the time of publishing no TV guides suggested Nine (or any of its sister channels) were actually televising it. Check your local listings for more information.
