It must be autumn carnival time, the gun horses are ready to roll and the rain has been bucketing down.

I have had some pretty average results over the past two weeks. Hopefully some wet track smarts will have me back in front for Sha Tin.

Units bet: 72

Units won: 56.30

Based on one unit per selection, result equal to $1 win bet – NSW dividends

Race 1 – 4 Resin
Kicking off with Resin. Should improve second up and gets a little weight drop. Fasika is a good one with nice wet numbers, and Seasons is up in class but rates well.

Race 4 – 4 Splintex (two units)
After leaving the two-year-olds to do their thing, I have landed on Splintex, who led and kicked to win easily last start. Track/distance/wet are all ticks. Anaheed is a potential superstar but was a big disappointing (I tipped her) against older horses last time. Villami has drawn poorly but has class, California Zimbol rates next best.

Race 5 – 2 The Bostonian
Tricky little race, I am trusting The Bostonian can transfer his unbelievable Brisbane form, where he’s made the grade at nice prices. So here it is, three from three at 1300 metres, five from six fresh and two from two on heavy tracks (four from eight on slow). Good enough for me! Classy field, Savatiano was great last time, Alizee is a star and the three-year-old Standout has no wet form but that might not matter.

Race 6 – 3 Redzel
A brute of a race, the legendary Redzel against his heir apparent (Santa Ana Lane), the slashing Nature Strip and the nine-year-old mud runner Jungle Edge. And that’s leaving out Deprive. I have landed on Redzel – loves Randwick, is great over the short trip and the wetter the better. Nature Strip is the risk. I’m hoping Jungle Edge challenges him up front, otherwise they might not catch him.

Race 7 – 6 Brandenburg
You might have noticed I didn’t back Brandenburg last time ($41 winner), with Super Seth out, I think maybe he’s come back bigger and better and can go on with it. Shadow Hero and Microphone are the other main hopes. I’m worried about Kubrick.

Race 8 – 14 Mugatoo
Mugatoo might be very good. He’s undefeated since heading here from England, and down at 53 kilos, I think he can keep it going. There are a few dangers. Shared Ambition is very good, Wu Gok swims and Norway took some big races in the UK.

Race 9 – 5 Aqua D’Ivina
I’ve closed the meeting with Aqua D’Ivina, who’s been freshened for this but generally runs well over a mile, is right down in weight and runs well in the slop. Danzdanzdance has class on these and I’m wary of Gayatari first up from the Waller yard.

Best in Melbourne

Race 5 – 10 Wild Planet (two units)
Down in weight and class, I’m hoping Wild Planet remembers how to win and takes care of this lot.
