With a lot of ideas being thrown into proportion for the NRL’s relaunch, I have analysed a few things that have come to my attention.

There’s a word around saying the ladder will reset and all points will be nullified. Well, I’m not a fan of that and I’m not saying that as a Knights fan with his team undefeated, but as a rugby league fan.

So let’s look at the current ladder.

1st. Parramatta 4 points
2nd. Newcastle 4
3rd. Canberra 4
4th. Melbourne 4
5th. Brisbane 4
6th. Penrith 4
7th. North Queensland 2
8th. South Sydney 2

9th. Wests Tigers 2
10th. Manly 2
11th. Cronulla 0
12th. Sydney 0
13th. St George Illawarra 0
14th. Canterbury 0
15th. Warriors 0
16th. Gold Coast 0

Now we have six teams undefeated and six winless, with the remaining four sharing a win and loss each. My proposed idea is to split the teams into two pools and put them into their own proverbial split seasons.

Pool A will consist of each team of odd figure rankings (first, third, etc) and Pool B will consist of the remaining teams.

Each pool will have their own ladders but by season’s end, the ladders will be combined for formalise a top eight. Whichever teams who are first of their pools will be the minor premiers of said pools. The points from the first two rounds will be intact.

So the pools will look like this.

Pool A
Parramatta
Canberra
Brisbane
North Queensland
Wests
Cronulla
St George Illawarra
Warriors

Pool B
Newcastle
Melbourne
Penrith
South Sydney
Manly
Sydney
Canterbury
Gold Coast

Each teams will play each other twice over the course of 15 weeks (with a bye) and by the finals, hopefully the stadiums will be reopened. By the end of the 15 weeks, the ladders will combine. As for locations, I think the idea of the island resort of Queensland for teams to alternate between Lang Park and Robina Stadium (Gold Coast) is idea.

If the season does recommence by the end of May, it could lead to the regular season finishing up by mid-late August and the grand final played late September-early October.

This is my idea. I know some may like it and some may think I’m nuts but that’s life. Roarers, now it’s your turn. What’s your opinion about how the season should recommence?
