With just five months remaining until the T20 World Cup – if it goes ahead – all the teams are busy getting their combinations right and players are giving their best to cement their place in the squad.

T20 is the format for power hitters and we will witness some high-scoring games in this World Cup. Almost every team will rely on their power hitters to shatter some records.

Here are my top five power hitters in the world.

1. Chris Gayle
The first name that comes to mind after hearing the words ‘power hitting’ is Christopher Henry Gayle. It looks like the T20 format just comes for him because this guy is the boss of this format.

His international record is good, scoring 1627 runs in just 58 matches at a strike rate of 142.84. But he has played all the T20 leagues around the globe and has almost 13,000 runs in T20 cricket, which is not a normal thing.

He is famous for hitting big sixes and many sixes go beyond the stadium. Spectators should also have their helmets on while he is batting. He has hit a six at an interval of every 10.85 deliveries, proving that he is the best exponent of power hitting.

2. Andre Russell
West Indies players are meant for this format because of their fire power and so it is not surprising to see his name in this list. He is one of the best power hitters, having an excellent strike rate of 151.26.

He is very popular in the IPL and had an amazing last season playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders. He has the ability to take the game away single handedly with his fire power.

He bats lower down the order and just takes five to six overs to knock other team out of the match. He has changed the dimensions of power hitting and made T20 the most exciting format.

3. AB de Villiers
The Proteas’ middle-order batsman is one of the most explosive players in the world at the moment. He has an excellent strike rate of 135.17, which is enough to destroy the opposition.

He is a valuable player in the T20 leagues, especially in the IPL. Mister 360 is the crowd favourite not only in South Africa but also in India due to him raining sixes in the IPL. He is the most destructive batsman in T20 cricket.

4. Glenn Maxwell
He is probably one of the finest power hitters nowadays. He has an excellent average of 35.02 with a fabulous strike rate of 160, making him a destructive batsman.

He is an unorthodox hitter, using some reverse sweeps and other unusual shots to destroy the opposition. He has a strong midwicket region.

He is one of the few players to score three centuries in T20Is. Considering the fact that he usually bats lower down the order, this is impressive. He has the ability to change the situation of a match by his fire power, making him the perfect power hitter.

5. Kieron Pollard
Another destructive lower-order batsman from the Caribbean is also one of the best hitters of the world.

Besides having a strike rate of 130-plus in T20Is, he is valuable in the T20 leagues also. He plays for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL and hardly misses any match due to his fire power, which adds a lot of value to the team.

He is the most explosive batsman. He is one of the best finishers and every cricket lover enjoys watching his power hitting.
