It’s official. Footy is nearly back! And with that comes superstars, future stars, and every player in between. But who will be selected for the Victorian teams heading into Round 2?

Collingwood vs Richmond

Collingwood
B: Jeremy Howe, Jordan Roughead, Jack Crisp
HB: Brayden Maynard, Darcy Moore, John Noble
C: Chris Mayne, Scott Pendlebury, Tom Phillips
HF: Jaidyn Stephenson, Brody Mihocek, Will Hoskin-Elliott
F: Jordan de Goey, Darcy Cameron, Josh Elliott
FOL: Brodie Grundy, Steele Sidebottom, Taylor Adams
I/C: Josh Thomas, Callum Brown, Tyler Brown, Matt Scharenberg

Now Matt Scharenberg’s call could be a bit unlikely (and controversial in the view of some), but he is a pretty good defender when he’s at his best. Since it’s been confirmed that Darcy Cameron is set to debut in the black and white (with Mason Cox still injured), he will either come off the bench and back up Grundy while Collingwood go small up forward, or will start as the second tall since he can go up forward and kick the odd goal or two.

Richmond
B: David Astbury, Dylan Grimes, Nathan Broad
HB: Bachar Houli/Liam Baker, Nick Vlastuin, Jayden Short
C: Josh Caddy, Dion Prestia, Jack Graham
HF: Daniel Rioli, Jack Riewoldt, Jason Castagna
F: Tom Lynch, Dustin Martin, Shane Edwards
FOL: Ivan Soldo, Trent Cotchin, Kane Lambert
I/C: Shai Bolton, Toby Nankervis, Marlion Pickett, Liam Baker/Sydney Stack

Yes Bachar Houli is still a doubt, but he’ll most likely play. While the Sydney Stack non-selection may again be controversial, Marlion Pickett, in only his first two games, has been superb and would provide that bit more of an x-factor (despite Stack having a lot of x-factor in him) off the bench in what will be a very fun game to watch.

Geelong vs Hawthorn

Geelong
B: Harry Taylor, Mark Blicavs, Jack Henry
HB: Zach Tuohy, Tom Stewart, Mark O’Connor
C: Mitch Duncan, Patrick Dangerfield, Zach Guthrie
HF: Luke Dahlhaus, Gryan Miers, Tom Atkins
F: Gary Rohan, Tom Hawkins, Esava Ratugolea
FOL: Rhys Stanley, Joel Selwood, Cam Guthrie
I/C: Gary Ablett, Jordan Clark, Quinton Narkle, Sam Menegola

Jack Steven is going fine and available for selection, but he should be rested since he’s just been cleared this week. Yes the incident happened three weeks ago now, but he’s still most likely not match fit for what is a pretty big game against Hawthorn.

Hawthorn
B: Ben McEvoy, James Frawley, Ben Stratton
HB: Isaac Smith, Sam Frost, James Sicily
C: Tom Scully, Liam Shiels, Ricky Henderson
HF: Luke Breust, Shaun Burgoyne, Chad Wingard
F: Conor Nash, Jon Patton, Tim O’Brien
FOL: Jon Ceglar, James Worpel, Tom Mitchell
I/C: Paul Puopolo, Jack Gunston, Harry Morrison, Blake Hardwick/Mitch Hanrahan

Hardwick is again potentially a no-go, but he did play in an intraclub match last Friday, (but was limited). Jaeger O’Meara, who suffered a facial fracture a couple of weeks ago, didn’t play and will most likely not play down in Geelong.

Carlton vs Melbourne

Carlton
B: Kade Simpson, Liam Jones, Lachie Plowman
HB: Sam Docherty, Jacob Weitering, Nic Newman
C: Sam Walsh, Patrick Cripps, Jack Newnes
HF: Jack Martin, Mitch McGovern, Paddy Dow
F: Levi Casboult, Harry McKay, Eddie Betts
FOL: Marc Pittonet, Ed Curnow, Marc Murphy
I/C: Sam Petrevski-Seton, Jack Silvagni, Will Setterfield, Michael Gibbons

Despite no Charlie Curnow and no Matthew Kreuzer, the Blues have enough depth to cover those losses now. Despite coming off a 24-point loss to the Tigers in Round 1, they still did have some positives, especially Jack Martin. With Betts free from injury and most likely coming back in, he will strengthen an already solid forward line.

Melbourne
B: Jake Lever, Steven May, Neville Jetta
HB: Michael Hibberd, James Harmes, Oscar McDonald
C: Ed Langdon, Clayton Oliver, Adam Tomlinson
HF: Jake Melksham, Bayley Fritsch, Alex Neal-Bullen
F: Kysaiah Pickett, Tom McDonald, Mitch Brown
FOL: Max Gawn, Christian Petracca, Jack Viney
I/C: Angus Brayshaw, Christian Salem, Charlie Spargo, Nathan Jones

This Demons side looks pretty good on paper, with a lot more depth and firepower. Harley Bennell will most likely not play, however Nathan Jones will still most likely come back into the side.

GWS Giants vs North Melbourne

North Melbourne
B: Jamie Macmillan, Robbie Tarrant, Luke McDonald
HB: Shaun Atley, Josh Walker, Jasper Pittard
C: Jared Polec, Ben Cunnington, Aaron Hall
HF: Shaun Higgins, Cameron Zurhaar, Tarryn Thomas
F: Curtis Taylor, Ben Brown, Jack Ziebell
FOL: Todd Goldstein, Trent Dumont, Jonathan Simpkin
I/C: Jed Anderson, Aiden Bonar, Paul Ahern, Dom Tyson

With Nick Larkey ruled out, the Kangas should turn to Dom Tyson who, despite not playing in Round 1, should give Cunnington potentially more time up forward (he kicked two goals in the win against the Saints).

Sydney vs Essendon

Essendon
B: Brandon Zerk-Thatcher, Michael Hurley, Aaron Francis
HB: Adam Saad, Jordan Ridley, Conor McKenna
C: Kyle Langford, Andrew McGrath, Tom Cutler
HF: Devon Smith, Cale Hooker, Darcy Parish
F: Irving Mosquito, Jacob Townsend, Jake Stringer
FOL: Tom Bellchambers, Dylan Shiel, Zach Merrett
I/C: David Zaharakis, Matt Guelfi, Mason Redman, Patrick Ambrose

Dyson Heppell will most likely not make the trip up to Sydney, but the Bombers do still have a strong line-up. Despite missing out on Round 1, McKenna should slot back into the starting 18. With Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti out this round and maybe more, Irving Mosquito should come into the line-up to bring that pressure and x-factor up forward.

St Kilda vs Western Bulldogs

St Kilda
B: Jarryn Geary, Jake Carlisle, Dougal Howard
HB: Ben Long, Hunter Clark, Dylan Roberton
C: Jack Billings, Zak Jones, Brad Hill
HF: Dan Hannebery, Max King, Jack Lonie
F: Dan Butler, Paddy Ryder, Tim Membrey
FOL: Rowan Marshall, Jade Gresham, Seb Ross
I/C: Luke Dunstan, Dean Kent, Callum Wilkie, Shane Savage

With Jack Steele gone, Shane Savage will most likely come in to replace him while Jake Carlisle should come back into the line-up (despite not playing Round 1), he would provide an extra boost for what is already a strong Saints side.

Western Bulldogs
B: Alex Keath, Zaine Cordy, Easton Wood
HB: Hayden Crozier, Jason Johannisen, Bailey Williams
C: Bailey Smith, Marcus Bontempelli, Lachie Hunter
HF: Tom Liberatore, Josh Bruce, Bailey Dale
F: Sam Lloyd, Aaron Naughton, Tory Dickson
FOL: Tim English, Josh Dunkley, Mitch Wallis
I/C: Jackson Macrae, Caleb Daniel, Matt Suckling, Patrick Lipinski

Still missing players such as Taylor Duryea, the Dogs do still have a strong line-up despite losing by 52 points in Round 1. Liberatore should come back in as well as Lipinski and Dickson after they missed Round 1. And Cordy, despite training not with the main group last week, should still play.
