The biggest cricket battles are Virat Kohli versus Steve Smith, Rohit Sharma versus David Warner, Jasprit Bumrah versus Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc versus Trent Boult.

We are going to look at the battle of the openers: Sharma versus Warner across all formats of the game.

T20s

David Warner
Matches: 79, runs: 2207, average: 31.52, strike rate: 140.48

Rohit Sharma
Matches: 108, runs: 2773, average: 32.62, strike rate: 138.78

If both of them were at the crease at the same time then think how the bowlers could face damage from the duo. But it is not possible as both of them play for different teams.

Warner plays the left-hander’s role superbly and uses powerplay situations to take advantage. The Aussie starts off slowly but accelerates quickly, and Sharma is his exact opposite. He smashes the ball right from ball one.

Sharma is the first person to play 100 T20s. Both have their own type of shots and aspects of the game, it is left with us to decide who is the best.

ODIs

David Warner
Matches: 121, runs: 5267, average: 45.80, strike rate: 95.76

Rohit Sharma
Matches: 217, runs: 9115, average: 49.27, strike rate: 88.92

They both showed class and batted superbly in the recently concluded CWC 19. Sharma pipped Warner by a mere one run to win the race for most runs.

Sharma had an average of 81.00 in the World Cup while Warner had an average of 71.88. The Indian has boasted 244 sixes in his career while Warner has only managed 82 maximums. While Warner had played fewer matches, it is hard to compare their stats.

David Warner
Matches: 155, runs: 7244, average: 48.94

Rohit Sharma
Matches: 53, runs: 2141, average: 46.54

With Sharma just now returning to Test cricket it is unfair to compare their stats as Warner has played three times as much. Sharma scored 212 in his return and Warner has a high score of 335*. Let’s wait for cricket to resume and watch these two back in action.

The series between India and Australia begins on 11 October and will be the first series both teams are playing after the COVID-19 crisis.
