We all may have seen the BBL, but little have we noticed that the teams all have Aussie players as captain.

In the history of BBL, the number of outsiders captained is only 7. Totally there have been 49 captains. In this year’s BBL, all captains are from Australia.

Is there something behind it or are our players the best?

In leagues all around the world, home players will often be captain but there are people from other countries also captaining.

In the Indian Premier League, there are captains from other countries too.

There are some quality players like AB De Villiers who can captain the teams. They have captained their nations as well. This year’s BBL was ruined as a precaution for Covid-19, Sydney Sixers managed to win over Melbourne Stars.

Some greats from other countries have captained in the BBL, like Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, Daniel Vettori, etc.

While this year Finch could only manage to lead the team to a mere three wins, there are players like Mohammed Nabi and Tom Cooper to replace him in situations where Finch could take a break and relax.

But the main reason for having all BBL captains is because all the teams have only a handful of foreign players. The teams could have only six foreign players in a team. Only two overseas players are allowed in the playing 11, maybe there should be more overseas players allowed in a match.

They could have four players in a team. This could help improve the standard of BBL and also make it an international topic. And also it could make a global branding for the league, attract more sponsors.

Maybe next year they could increase this like this year’s increase. This does not rest in the BBL organisers alone, the countries must be willing to send their players to other countries to play leagues.

Let’s look forward to live cricket to resume so that we can decide on the BBL start.

But this initiative of not allowing more foreign players is not bad either. It is done to ensure the rise of cricket in Australia.
