Seven of the 22 players chosen in Round 8’s predicted team polled votes in the coaches’ votes; James Sicily, Jack Macrae, Jade Gresham, Tom Papley, Sam Walsh, Cam Guthrie and Sam Menegola.

In the predicted team for Round 8, only one player wasn’t selected to play; that player was Harry McKay from Carlton who was a late withdrawal due to injury.

The team that has been chosen in the Round 9 predicted team strongly mirrors the positions that the teams are predicted to line up in and also takes into account the position they lined up in for Round 8.

There are a few alterations, but the endeavour is to try and make it closely related to the position that they play in, eg three of the four players on the interchange bench in the Round 9 predicted team started there in Round 8, with Darcy Parish being the exception.

Three players retain their position from Round 8’s predicted team in Round 9’s predicted team of the week; Jack Macrae, Jade Gresham and Tom Papley.

B: Hamish Hartlett (Port Adelaide), Robbie Tarrant (North Melbourne), Jake Carlisle (St Kilda)
HB: Sam Docherty (Carlton), Jake Lever (Melbourne Demons), Sam Petrevski-Seton (Carlton)
C: Jack Billings (St Kilda), Clayton Oliver (Melbourne Demons), Jack Macrae (Western Bulldogs)
HF: Jade Gresham (St Kilda), Jack Darling (West Coast), Toby Greene (Giants)
FF: Dustin Martin (Richmond), Rory Lobb (Fremantle), Tom Papley (Sydney Swans)
Foll: Reilly O’Brien (Adelaide Crows), Tim Kelly (West Coast), Lachie Neale (Brisbane)
Int: Matt Crouch (Adelaide Crows), Hayden Crozier (Western Bulldogs), Lachie Weller (Gold Coast), Darcy Parish (Essendon)

Backs
Hamish Hartlett has the potential to be one of the best defenders at providing run out of the back line.

Robbie Tarrant will probably get the match-up with Taylor Walker; expect Tarrant to get the better of that match-up and also win plenty of the ball himself.

Jake Carlisle has been consistent in AFL season 2020; expect Carlisle to take intercept marks and curtail the influence of the Swans forward line.

Sam Docherty should play a pivotal role in what could be a season-defining game for Carlton.

Jake Lever should negate the influence of the Port Adelaide forward line in Round 9.

Sam Petrevski-Seton is a quality player who will show why he is so dangerous as he doesn’t have to get many disposals to have a positive impact on the game.

Midfielders
Jack Billings will need to be at his best if St Kilda are to beat Sydney, which should occur.

Clayton Oliver will probably go head to head with Ollie Wines and win the battle.

Jack Macrae should show why he is one of the most consistent players.

Forwards
Jade Gresham should be too good for the Swans defenders and display why he is such an important player for St Kilda if they are to make finals.
Jack Darling should get the better of his matchup against Harry Taylor of Geelong.

Toby Greene needs to replicate his Round 8 display against Richmond when the Giants take on Gold Coast in Round 9. Greene must prove his Round 8 display wasn’t an aberration.

Dustin Martin will be difficult for the Western Bulldogs defence to stop.

Rory Lobb should prove why he is such a pivotal part of the Fremantle team when they take on Collingwood in Round 9.

Tom Papley has the opportunity to show why he is possibly the best forward in the competition.

Followers
Reilly O’Brien should get the better of his match-up against Todd Goldstein in what is a game that the Adelaide Crows need to play well in so they can prove their solid performance in Round 8 against Essendon (although they didn’t get the win), wasn’t an aberration.

Tim Kelly should be motivated for a big game against his old club. Kelly has a good opportunity to prove why he is one of West Coast’s most important players.

Lachie Neale will be difficult for the Essendon midfield to stop. Neale should prove why he is arguably the best player in the competition.

Interchange
Matt Crouch will need to be at his best if the Adelaide Crows are to claim their first win of the AFL 2020 season or at the very least be competitive against North Melbourne in Round 9.

Hayden Crozier has a chance to substantiate why he is one of the most underrated players in the competition.

Lachie Weller needs to play well if the Gold Coast are to win what could prove to be a season-defining game against the Giants in Round 9.

Darcy Parish got one coaches’ vote in Round 8 and should get more coaches’ votes in Round 9 if he can replicate his display in Round 9.
