Let us take a look at Chennai Super Kings’ squad, strengths, weaknesses and their key players.

Squad
Narayan Jagadeesan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, KM Asif, Ravindra Jadeja, Murali Vijay, MS Dhoni, Josh Hazlewood, Kedar Jadhav, Harbhajan Singh, Karn Sharma, Piyush Chawla, Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina, Imran Tahir, Deepak Chahar, Faf du Plessis, Shardul Thakur, Mitchell Santner, Dwayne Bravo, Lungi Ngidi, Sam Curran, Monu Kumar, Shane Watson, Sai Kishore.

Strengths

Leadership
The leadership group over the years for Chennai Super Kings has remained the same with captain MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming at the top. This captain-coach duo seems to be a deadly weapon. Chennai Super Kings have had immense success throughout IPL, becoming one of the most successful teams.

An excellent captain who has always showcased his leadership quality is their biggest strength. Dhoni always has a way with things and is the best in the business.

Experience
IPL match experience for many of Chennai’s players. CSK comparatively has an older squad, but with age comes experience and that is something which CSK does not lack at all.

Indian core
Chennai Super Kings relay a lot on their Indian core set of players, which has not failed them until now. One of their biggest secret to their winning streaks have been their core itself. Believing in the players has given them a big success throughout the IPL.

Losing a player like Suresh Raina will be a huge loss for CSK.

Weaknesses

Age
Even though the age factor brings in the experience to the team, it can be an issue too. A huge set of their players are to the older side and this can cause some fitness-related problems and injuries which CSK will have to go through.

Recent match experience
Many of their players like MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, Ambati Rayudu, Murali Vijay have not played any professional cricket in a long while, which can cause them some troubles. Getting into their right form might also take a couple of matches.

Spinners
Chennai is a team that relies a lot on their spin department which consists of Imran Tahir, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Mitchell Santner and a few others. They could struggle when they play on a ground where spin is not effective, especially since this year’s IPL is not played in India.

Key players
1. MS Dhoni
2. Dwayne Bravo
3. Ravindra Jadeja
4. Imran Tahir
5. Ambati Rayadu
