Despite an uncharacteristically dry October, the 2020 NRL grand final between the Penrith Panthers and Melbourne Storm is likely to be a wet one.
Sydney has had one of its driest Octobers on record in 2020, but that’s set to change on Saturday and will continue right through until the end of the month.

While the rain itself shouldn’t really be that heavy, Sydney is set to suffer thunderstorms and up to 10mm of rain on Saturday, before Sunday delivers another 10 to 15mm – albeit without thunderstorms.
Given ANZ Stadium has been notorious for retaining moisture and dew over the years, we could be in for a particularly slippery decider.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a high of 19 degrees for grand final day, although the temperature will have subsided considerably by the time of kick-off. Couple with the rain, we could be in for quite a cold grand final too.
Not only that, the winds are predicted to be anywhere between 25 to 35 kilometres per hour – which registers as between a moderate and fresh breeze on the Beaufort scale.
The official Bureau of Meteorology forecast reads as follows.
“Minimum temperature 13 degrees, maximum temperature 19 degrees, possible rainfall: 10-15mm”
“Cloudy. Very high (90%) chance of showers. Winds southerly 25 to 35km/h.”
