Outrageous has won the final race before the Melbourne Cup at Flemington, taking home the Grinders Coffee Roasters trophy.

Thanks to a perfect ride from William Pike, the John Hawkes-trained gelding broke away with a few hundred metres still to run to win the 1400m race by two lengths.

Pre-race favourite Groundswell finished well off the pace, with Ocular and The Difference passing the post in second and third respectively. Viral came in fourth.
