Cameron Green is on the mend and in good spirits as he bids to make a remarkably quick recovery from concussion and debut in the day-night Test.
Green was substituted out of a tour game at the SCG on Friday after a frightening blow to the head. The all-rounder was bowling when Jasprit Bumrah bludgeoned the ball back at him.
Green quickly got to his feet and smiled while walking off the field but there is scant time for him to prove his fitness before the four-Test series between Australia and India starts on Thursday.
The 21-year-old is set to link up with the Test squad on Monday.
“From reports I think he’s in really high spirits,” Australia A captain Alex Carey said, having been behind the stumps when Green was felled.
“If he’s flying out to Adelaide that is a great sign I suppose.
“I had a pretty good view of it from where I was and I never like seeing injuries like that. I stood back in a bit of shock.
“He said (on Saturday night) he’s feeling better and better every day.
“Fingers crossed, the way he’s playing at the moment is outstanding.”

Carey added his voice to the chorus of praise for Green, who scored an unbeaten century in the first of India’s two tour games.
“What he can do with the ball is something special,” the wicketkeeper said.
“Watching him in the nets before this game, he was pretty impressive with the bat as well.”
Green’s fitness could determine whether out-of-form opener Joe Burns is axed for the pink-ball Test.
There have been calls for Matthew Wade or Marnus Labuschagne to open alongside Marcus Harris in a rejigged order, while Mark Waugh on Sunday floated the even more radical idea of skipper Tim Paine performing the job.
Burns and Harris, who both missed out on a score of substance in the SCG tune-up, will fly to Adelaide on Monday.
“No doubt they would have loved to score runs,” Carey said.
“But they’ve both got outstanding records… I’d have full confidence in them playing really well in Adelaide.”
Brisbane Heat coach Darren Lehmann doesn’t expect Burns to return to his BBL club any time soon.
“We’re pretty confident that he’ll play. I think he will but that’s the selectors’ call,” Lehmann said.
“He’s got enough tickets in the bank, if you like, to actually play the first Test.
“When he gets in, he gets a hundred. We just haven’t seen it this year.”
