What has suddenly gone wrong at Chelsea? A team flying on a high couple of weeks ago has now gone three games without a victory in the league and just one win in their last six outings.

The team’s woes continued as they lost again to Manchester City in a 3-1 thriller, thereby losing more ground in the title race.

After the Manchester City game, the Blues now sit eighth on the log with 26 points after 17 games. They are seven points behind league leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.

Chelsea will have to bounce back quickly to avoid being further away from the top and continue to mount a strong challenge but they need to improve massively – especially with goal-scoring.

Although I think under fire Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard, has his share of the blame for the poor run of form. The Chelsea boss’ choice of players for games has been really poor. He hasn’t picked the right players for the right games, his decision-making is poor and needs to improve – especially moving forward.

In the Arsenal game, he opted to start Ben Chilwell and Reece James, having just recovered from injury and not fully fit in place of veteran defender Ceaser Azpilicueta.

The following game against Aston Villa, the manager started Andreas Christensen, a player who had featured just four times preceding that game and whose last league appearance was against Southampton as far back as October.

Also, I think it’s time Frank Lampard begins to start Timo Werner from the bench and play Callum Hudson Odoi more regularly and play Christian Pulisic from the left flank where he his more prolific.

Werner hasn’t found his feet in the league yet. Introducing him bit by bit might help him a lot. And Lampard also has a decision to make considering Oliver Giroud in his starting line-up.

Lampard knows with the amount of money spent in the summer that a position below the top four might be considered inappropriate to the Chelsea hierarchy.

He needs to be swift and get good results to avoid losing more points and risk moving farther away from the top.

It’s still a really long season so it will be interesting to see how things go.
