Manchester United went top of the pile for the first time in about two and a half years after a hard-fought victory over a resilient Burnley at Turf Moor.

The venue is a place that needs no further introduction to many Manchester United players who have fought so hard in the past to clinch results there.

United worked really hard as expected but they couldn’t let the night slip through their fingers without utilising the opportunity to go top, bearing in mind their next game is at another tough moor.

Manchester United fans are now filled with excitement, knowing how high their team is flying at the moment.

They are not just sitting in top spot, but they have strung together a superb run of form.

The team started in utterly poor fashion at the start of the season and got knocked out of the Champions League group stages against German side RB Leipzig. However, getting the top spot in January for the first time since Alex Ferguson’s last season in charge is a pill for their injured souls.

While United fans are happy about their current position, they are even happier about the nature of the way they got there.

They were driven to success by no other player than Paul Pogba. Since his arrival at Old Trafford, he always makes his way to the top of headlines.

Transfer sagas, Instagram videos, haircuts and speeding – we’ve heard all about the Frenchman.

This time he is not making the headlines for the wrong reasons, but for helping his side to victory.

His long-range volley from outside the box netted him a man of the match award.

His bold statement after the game suggested he will be staying at Manchester beyond the summer window.

Do you think he will be enticed to remain in Manchester if United become champions? He would want to cement his name in the club’s history books, especially after all he’s been through during his torrid time there.

The inability of the team to challenge for silverware has been a source of great frustration to him, but after last night, he should be having second thoughts.
