After a bit of treading water last week (I was down 1.4 units on the day), we head to Rosehill this Saturday for a bit of a middling meeting.

There are some small fields and those dreaded dual nominators to get through, but we’ll do our best to find some winners.

I’ve also had a bit of a crack at the big Gold Coast card. The Sydney form should hold up all things considered. A big 15 units are in play across the day.

Last week
Outlay: Ten units.
Return: 8.6 units.

2020-21 season (since 1 August)
Outlay: 305 units.
Return: 403.8 units.

Stats are based on one unit being equal to a $1 win bet, New South Wales dividends. See the comments for any changes based on scratchings or track condition.

Sydney selections

Race 2 – 2 Bulletin (one unit)
Bulletin is first-up in Oz after showing promise as a youngster in America. He’s a speedy type who has a had a few trials and is worth a dig at the price. The Clark-Waterhouse-Bott combination is a plus. It’s a small field. The Bopper and Tailleur are the ones he needs to beat. Neither is a price worth considering.

Race 4 – 6 Merlinite (one unit)
We’re confronted by another small field in this one. Merlinite has been running okay with excuses in midweeks. She gets the lovely weight drop for coming out on the weekend and is where my money will be. Harpo Marx is the main threat and Vadiyann is in a soft race if he finds his best.

Race 5 – 3 Lancaster Bombing (one unit)
Lancaster Bomber’s win at Canterbury was good lugging 61 kilos. He was fine following All Time Legend home last time. This horse should give a sight from up near the front. I had Monte Ditto next and Americana Magic the blowout.

Race 6 – 7 Orcein (two units)
It all lines up in Orcein’s favour here. He can find a way to get beaten but his best form is at the Rosehill 1500 on a firm surface. He won’t find a better chance now that he’s fitter with two runs back after a spell. I’m regularly in Above and Beyond’s corner but he’s finished just off them once too often. He’s on the donut at Randwick and at 1500 so I’m happy to go the other way.

Race 7 – 6 Blaze a Trail (one unit)
Blaze a Trail raced at the big end of town as a two-year-old. He’s since had some soft kills away from town and has trialled well for this. It’s not an overly strong race. Bazooka has similar form lines. Shaik has fitness and form on the board.

Race 8 – 5 Lillemor (one unit)
In a return to the 2020 formula, Lillemor has Louise Day giving her a nice weight cushion, where she should lead or sit second around a short course. It’s dry at Rosehill but there might be something in it. Never Again has won five from six and will be running on. Jay Jay D’Ar is finally back on a dry track and might find her best.

Race 9 – 3 Outback Diva (one unit)
Poor old Outback Diva hasn’t seen her preferred dry track since this time last year, when she bolted in at Newcastle. She’s unbeaten second up, is 3-2-1 from seven goes on a firm track and has wins in this distance range and at Rosehill. There’s a bit of belief involved but she’s not going around without me.

Gold Coast selections

Race 2 – 5 Frosty Rocks (two units)
Frosty Rocks meets Paradee four kilos to the good after their match-up last week. This horse should be able to roll along and will be in it a long way. I’m not underestimating Badoosh if the track improves.

Race 5 – 2 Athiri (three units)
Athiri did the business for us to start the year. She’s got a class edge on this lot and I’ll look to double up my winnings from last time.

Race 6 – 15 Queen of Wizardry (one unit)
Queen of Wizardry bolted home on debut to beat Ranch Hand. It’s speculative but if she improves on that she could be a star. At over $20 it’s the right price.

Race 8 – 9 Discharged (one unit)
Discharged is a ripper. He prefers a mile but will be tuned for this and has a touch of class. It’s a big field. While Yao Dash was good last week, I’m happy to back Discharged to be better.

Good luck one and all. Enjoy the day and stay safe. Please feel free to send through comments and your best plays of the day.
