Harness racing selections: Saturday, February 20

By Adam Page / Roar Guru

There are two meetings to focus on this Saturday night, with racing in Menangle and Albion Park.

Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Albion Park

Best bet: Race 1, Number 1, Jonah Jones
He’s a great bet to start the program. He was brave in defeat here on Tuesday, sitting parked and fighting on strongly to run a narrow second in a 1.56 mile rate. This horse has drawn the pole. Grant Dixon will have plenty of options and whatever the scenario, he’s clearly the horse to beat.

Next best: Race 6, Number 1, Clintal Do
This horse is bursting to win another race and he gets his chance here. With a clear run, he goes close to winning here last Saturday in a race that looked much stronger on paper compared to what he faces here. This horse gets run of the race from the draw, whether leading or trailing. I am really keen on his chances.

Value: Race 4, Number 1, Jeddy R Ya Ready
His best days are behind him, but he is racing well enough to run a bold race here at odds. This horse ran here two weeks ago when showing good speed to lead and then opted for cover, battling away well to run fifth. This horse can step away cleanly once again here, land a plum spot and prove to be a leading contender.

Menangle

Best bet: Luke McCarthy three-plus winners
It was a really frustrating night last Saturday for the gun driver but on a big night like this, class comes to the fore and he is the best in Sydney. He has a really strong book of drives, and could easily drive four or maybe even five. But three or more winners at $3.50 looks a great gamble.

Next best: Race 3, Number 3, Chrissy Chic
The market gap between this horse and Tough Tilly should not be as great as it is. This horse had her first run for Jason Grimson last start and led throughout to win quite impressively. She’s heading in the right direction and this horse is a big chance to knock off the star filly.

Value: Race 7, Number 4, Jay Ok
This horse is a perennial place getter but I can’t go wrong backing him each way. He’s a very genuine horse that tries hard. This horse just keeps finding one or two better. He’s been close up behind some classy types in recent outings without a great deal of luck. A bet of 1×3 at $15-plus is worth a ticket.
