Opinion
There are two meetings to look at on Wednesday night, with Bendigo and Redcliffe getting my attention. Below are the best bets for the respective programs.
Best bet: Race 1, Number 1, Watch And Act
Parisian Artiste is the best horse in the race by a mile but his manners are terrible and given he’s likely to go around a short quote, I’d much rather be on Watch And Act. He was really good first up here. This horse did work outside the speed before locking wheels at a vital stage. This horse picked himself up and was sound to the line. This horse has gate speed, so potentially leads this field up and has reliable manners. He’s a great bet in the opener.
Next best: Race 9, Number 3, Starlight Red
The start will be crucial here because the two big guns in the betting, Piesridingshotgun and this girl, have good gate speed and will be looking to lead. Starlight Red shot off the arm from four last start and was a most impressive winner, so I am banking on her showcasing that sort of early speed again, leading and proving hard to beat.
Value: Race 2, Number 1, Selaphobia
It is a bit of a rise in depth for this mare but she is racing well. She’s done her recent racing in the Mildura area and has found some positive form. This horse was luckless at that track last week when badly held up behind the speed. If she can hold a forward spot from the pole, she only runs well at odds.

Best bet: Race 1, Number 1, Our Little Digger
Recent numerical form is nothing to jump up and down about, but a combination of bad gates and bad luck has faced him in those runs, especially last start. He’s still in a pocket. This horse finally has a good gate to use. He can possess gate speed, so only has to hold the lead, leaders back at worst, and he wins.
Next best: Race 2, Number 1, Ifoundthebeach
It is a similar story to Our Little Digger in the sense he has finally got a decent barrier. This horse is another that hasn’t drawn a positive gate in some time but he has been racing well despite that, with his recent effort behind Adrenaline Rush more than a pass mark. He’ll hold a forward spot and take a power of beating.
Value: Race 3, Number 7, Beejays Delight
I want to give him another chance and you’ll get a decent price for him. This horse was on his back here last Wednesday night when attempting to lead throughout and he had every chance when run down late. This horse has a good trailing draw this time around and should he land leaders back, perhaps with a sit, he’ll be more effective.
