We all know athletes have a big fan-base all over the world, Moreover, they have a luxurious lifestyle with the millions of dollars which they get as salaries and from various other sponsorship deals.

Along with this, they are even paid for posting pictures on various social media channels. Let’s take a look at the 100 million Instagram followers club.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (271 million)
No surprises here, as Cristiano Ronaldo comes first on this list. According to Forbes, Ronaldo earns nearly $1 million (A$1.3 million) per paid post on Instagram and has the second-highest income from Instagram-related revenue.

Moreover, according to a research report by Attain, Ronaldo has earned a whooping £1,888,336 (A$3.39 million) through his posts on Instagram during the COVID-19 lockdown period from March 12 to May 4, 2020.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester United player is the most-loved athlete on Instagram, currently with 271 million followers. He has nearly 80 million more followers ahead of the next person.

2. Lionel Messi (192 million)
Next on this list is Lionel Messi. The Barcelona legend is loved all around the globe and is a sensation with the ball any day.

Unfortunately, Messi has not reached the 200 million mark on Instagram and currently has 192 million followers. The Argentine has total earnings of £1,299,373 (A$2.3 million) through sponsored posts just during this lockdown phase. According to Sportekz, Messi earns around $650,000 (A$842,000) per post.

3. Neymar Jr (147 million)
The Paris Saint-Germain player has minted £1,192,211 (A$ 2.14 million) during this lockdown phase. The Brazilian is not short of followers, as he has 147 million on Instagram, becoming the third athlete on the list after Ronaldo and Messi.

According to Sportekz, Neymar earns $722,000 (A$936,000) per post on Instagram, which is more than what Lionel Messi earns per post. Even though this is the case, Neymar Jr’s yearly Instagram income only adds up to $7.2 million (A$9.34 million), much lower than his former Barcelona teammate.

4. Virat Kohli (104 million)
The surprising name on this list is none other than the Indian cricket team captain, Virat Kohli. He recently joined this 100 million club and became the only cricketer on this list.

A player who is simply magnificent with the bat in hand, he currently has 104 million followers.

According to the list published by Attain, the Indian captain earned a total of £379,294 (A$681,000) through his sponsored posts.

According to Hopper HQ’s list released in 2020, Kohli emerged as the only cricketer in the world’s top-24 list of highest-earning athletes through sponsored Instagram posts during the lockdown. Hopper HQ’s list also revealed that Kohli made $296,000 (A$384,000) per post in 2020 and is likely to earn much more this year.
