Two meetings to look at this Thursday, with Tabcorp Park Melton and Redcliffe getting my focus. Down below is best bets for the respective programs.

Tabcorp Park Melton

Best bet: Race Four Number 2 Petillante
Making a first starter a best bet can be fraught with danger but she looks a very smart filly and confident she can kick off her career with a win. Trialled here a couple of weeks back and she looked to have gears left when second in the trial.

Chris Alford on, she looks very good and should make a winning debut.

Next best: Race Six Number 10 Sleepee
She’s a good thing. Chris Alford gets back on her and he knows this mare better than anyone. She was brave in defeat last time out after sitting parked without cover.

Drawn the second row, it’ll be interesting to see what Alford does – whether he waits or will be aggressive from the outset. Whatever the scenario, she’s the one to beat.

Value: Race One Number 8 River Patrol
More of a 1×3 speck at odds. He follows out a class animal, but whether it holds up and leads remains to be seen.

River Patrol will either get leaders back or three back on the pegs. Terrible drive last time when hunting forward to hold up and lead, which was clearly the wrong move and he dropped out badly. Economical run, he will get every chance to run a positive race.

Redcliffe

Best bet: Race One Number 1 Bondi Prince
He’s had a few chances to break the maiden tag but he gets a golden opportunity here. Strange drive last time out.

Drawn inside the second row, he got off the pegs before sitting parked and just felt the pinch late. Drawn the pole, he has enough gate speed to find the front and prove hard to run down.

Next best: Race Three Number 2 Ocean Lane
Pretty keen on this mare. Drawn well with good gate speed, that is such an ideal recipe at Redcliffe, especially over the sprint trip of 1780m.

Worked to find the front last time and once she got the lead, it was race over and she was dominant. Won’t do as much work to find the front this time so I’m keen on her.

Value: Race Two Number 1 Royal Princess
Hoping we can get an each price about this filly, around the $5/$6 mark. Think she saves her best for Redcliffe but her past couple at Albion Park have been quite strong, the latest seeing her run a close up second.

Should get into a perfect spot from the draw and then she only runs well.
