Like most forays to the Central Coast, last week’s punt at Gosford returned nothing and left me licking my wounds.

I am back to the safety of Rosehill this week. It is a good meeting with some winter horses taking on promising types that are Brisbane-bound.

I count myself in the second category. I’ll be at Doomben for the 10,000, so I’ve spread my wings and will include a few tips from the big card they have up north.

Dixie’s 2021 tally
Outlay: 190 units
Return: 332.8 units
Stats are based on one unit being equal to a $1 win bet, New South Wales dividends. See the comments for any changes based on scratchings or track condition.

Sydney racing selections

Race 1 – 7 Banju (one unit)
I am taking a quick dip in the highway this week. Banju ran time winning at Bathurst and drops seven and a half kilos into this, which are good signs. Saintly Surprise is the one from the highway I’m interested in at odds. I backed Charlton Park last time and he just got done. This horse has got to go better here.

Race 2 – 9 Tidal Impact (one unit)
It’s not often I find myself checking Coonamble replays. I am hoping it’s worth it with Tidal Impact, who won his only start out west by ten lengths. He’s since bolted in at the trials closer to home and is worth a punt.

Race 3 – 8 Achiever (two units)
Achiever looks the one to beat in the three-year-old distance race. He was good at odds in the Packer Plate and that looks like a nice guide into this. I had Blaze A Trail next best and Casino Mondial the blowout.

Race 4 – 16 Nags to Riches (one unit)
I rated Nags about equal to Newsreader but with the give in the surface I’m leaning to the one down the bottom of the weights. She won well at Gosford and the inside draw is great.

Race 5 – 2 Exoboom (one unit)
I know from the texts I received that a few of you took my lead and got on Exoboom last time. He gobbled them up like a good horse there and might have something on this lot as well. Prime Star is the obvious danger.

Race 6 – 10 True Detective (one unit)
What can beat Lost And Running? He’s certainly been impressive, but striking a soft track with a wide gate are two question marks when you’re $1.40. True Detective likes this distance range and is proven at Rosehill. He’s a monster price. Nothing crazy but I’ll see what coins are in my pocket.

Race 7 – 13 Fituese (three units)
I am very keen on Fituese in the sprint. She flies fresh and 1100 metres at Rosehill is perfect. Adelong will run along and is just a winner. Albumin loves the track and trip, then Fiesta and Zaniah.

Race 8 – 4 Salina Dreaming (two units)
Three from three on soft tracks is a good sign for top-rater Salina Dreaming. Her fresh win puts her front and centre here. Ocean Emperor was a bit disappointing with my money last time. He rates well at his best. This race marks the long-awaited return of 2020 breadwinner De Grawin. I’m going to risk her first up with the weight tug again, but I’m wary.

Race 9 – 14 Bentley Magic (one unit)
It is a massive field in the last. They’ll be coming from everyone. I’ll be cheering for the green silks of Bentley Magic at any old price. The 1400 metres is his go and the weight relief is a tick. At 50/1, it’s worth a crack.

Brisbane racing selections

Race 2 – 3 Fabric (one unit)
Fabric gets a few favours with scratchings and is the one I want to be on.

Race 4 – 12 Seat of Power (one unit)
Seat of Power bolted in two starts back. He’ll lead them up and should run the trip.

Race 7 – 1 Trekking (one unit)
I am risking Eduardo at 1200 metres. I’ve landed with Trekking. He’s the distance specialist who was just off track-record pace two starts back in the Manikato. This is a quality race.

Race 9 – 14 Westlink (one unit)
We’re getting any old price on the 9/14 Sydney Brisbane double. I have Westlink on top. He was very good in tougher company last week. The back-up is a tick, but the give in the track not so much. But at 20/1 or more, I’m with him.

Good luck all. It’s a big one. Please be in touch across the day with your tips and thoughts.
