There are two meetings to look at on Wednesday night, with my focus being on Redcliffe and Bathurst.

Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Redcliffe

Best bet: Race 3, Number 2, Divinia Bellezza
These former WA pacers that come to the east are just ATMs. This mare should be no exception. She brings with her some very strong metro form from Gloucester Park, with subsequent group form around her. She looked very sharp in a recent Albion Park trial win and just has to handle Redcliffe to win.

Next best: Race 4, Number 5, Guido Da Siena
Ricky Thurlow trains the mare above and he also trains this gelding, a former NSW pacer having Start 2 for the camp. There was a lot of merit in his first-up effort at Albion Park. He just had to get dragged back from the wide gate, but I liked the way he finished off. The depth here is nowhere near as strong, so he’ll do me.

Value: Race 5, Number 2, High On Montana
He will need luck in the run because he doesn’t have gate speed and will be crossed. But he should do no work in the run and he finds such a thin race. His recent efforts at Albion Park from tricky gates have been sound. This horse has drawn the pole this time around. He should get every chance.

Bathurst

Best bet: Race 1, Number 2, Old Luke
This former Kiwi has done little wrong since coming down under and he looks a great way to start the meeting. He was enormous in defeat a few weeks ago here when doing plenty of work to sit parked outside the speed. This horse did a super job to stick on like he did behind a smart one in Uncle Miki. This horse should lead and prove too good.

Next best: Race 4, Number 1, The Weekend
Josh Gallagher is a high-class driver, but with due respect, Luke McCarthy jumping on is a significant upgrade. He doesn’t come to Bathurst for nothing and teams up with family given Matthew McCarthy trains. He has raced quite well without winning recently, but he has got the inside gate this time, should lead and prove really hard to get past.

Value: Race 5, Number 9, Gabbys Sportstar
You can’t go wrong with a 1×3. This horse is a very consistent five-year-old that is rarely far away from the action and has such a perfect trailing draw, following out pole marker, fast beginner and likely favourite Keayang Kreuzer. This horse hasn’t really had luck with gates recently, but this is the ideal sit for him and 1×3 is a great bet.
