Brisbane telling Tevita Pangai Jnr he’s free to find another club may have blindsided Alex Glenn, but the Broncos captain admits things have to change at Red Hill.

The revelation Pangai Jnr had been granted permission to speak to rival clubs emerged during Thursday’s 46-0 hammering at Suncorp Stadium by South Sydney, a defeat that leaves the once-proud club back on the bottom of the NRL ladder.

Glenn said the news over the 25-year-old’s future coming out during a match was far from ideal and reckoned he’d be sad to see the Tongan international exit the club.

“That’s a tough pill to swallow, to be honest,” Glenn said.

“I’m not in control of what happens with players going and coming but that’s not something you need to be released mid-game.”

Pangai Jnr is unlikely to be the only departure from the club with coach Kevin Walters announcing after the match there would be a mid-season review of the entire organisation.

Thursday’s loss was the Broncos’ fourth on the spin – they’ve conceded 176 points in that spell – and Walters and new chief executive Dave Donaghy have clearly had enough with the mediocrity that has engulfed the former powerhouse.

Glenn, a Broncos junior who debuted in 2009 and played in the 2014 grand final against North Queensland, said the team’s terrible form was simply getting harder and harder to bear.

“I’ve been at this club for over a decade and this jersey means so much to me,” he said.

“We’re getting beaten by 40-plus points every week, bro.

“It hurts, man. It’s not in the Broncos DNA and that’s the shattering part to be honest.”

Unaware what the promised review would mean for him or other players, Glenn conceded it was clear changes, some which may be difficult, have to be made.

“You’d be stupid if you weren’t thinking that this was going to happen. It’s reality, bro,” he said.

“We’re getting beaten by 40-plus points. Something has to change.

“The review … it will be a good thing. There’ll be some tough calls to make, and I’m glad I’m not the one that has to make that, but reality is there has to be changes done.”
