There are two meetings to look at on Wednesday night, with my attention being at Redcliffe and Shepparton.
Down below are the best bets for the respective programs.
Best bet – Race 4, No. 1: Rainbow Jet
This three-year-old is bursting to win a race, and he gets his chance this time around. He hasn’t exactly been helped by bad barriers to use gate speed, but that all changes this time around. He has gate speed so should be able to hold a forward spot from the outset, and the depth isn’t strong.
Next best bet – Race 1, No. 1: Beef City Blaze
The Greig team has him flying, and there’s no reason he can’t make it three on the bounce. The last two have come at this track and distance, each time seeing him get a suck run behind the speed and finishing best. He should land in a similar spot this time around and prove hard to hold out.
Value bet – Race 5, No. 7: Aroona
This horse is worth a 1×3 speck at odds. He was an impressive winner at the track three starts ago, and in his two subsequent runs he has been far from disgraced, the latest being a fifth to talented juvenile Misty Creek. If he can hold the leaders back, he’ll be in with a shout at a price.
Best bet – Race 5, No. 2: Platinum Stride
I’m confident he can get back onto the winners list. Butt/Smith team-trained gelding that was just fair when racing here last time out in a listed race, but the depth there was much, much stronger than what he faces this time around. Drawn well, he’ll press forward and with class get home.
Next best bet – Race 2, No. 2: Ultimate Me
On recent numerical form he has no chance, but he has had genuine excuses, whether it be bad manners or flat tyres. The depth here this time around is looking very much on the thin side, and if he does everything right, he has the draw to find the front – and he does get Chris Alford to drive.
Value bet – Race 7, N0. 10: Mascott
He’s a former Tassie trotter that has had two runs for the new camp. He hasn’t exactly set the world on fire each time he has stepped out, but I will say both runs have seen him not on his best behaviour, so there have been excuses. He should get decent cover and a drag into the race from the draw, and at odds I can back him each way.
